'THE BUS DRIVER' - FORMER STEELER TIM LESTER NAMED TO DFI BOARD
(INDIO) - Running back Tim Lester, nicknamed the 'Bus Driver' during his eight-year NFL career for his devastating blocks that paved the way for the likes of Jerome Bettis and Emmitt Smith, has been named to the advisory board of Developmental Football International LLC.
Today, his nickname still applies to his new mission in life, which is helping others become aware of their consequences through an evaluation process Tim calls “The 4 Plays of Life.”
"We're thrilled to have Tim and his vision on board with us as we push toward our national goals to not just cultivate players, but entire communities," said DFI Commissioner Joel Williams.
"Tim is a living example of how a life in alignment can impact everyone and everything in its path."
Lester was fortunate to be raised by a great mom and dad in Miami, Florida. Growing up the middle child out of seven kids (six boys and one girl), he was the brother who played by all the rules. He was the first son to go off to college on a football scholarship.
Upon graduating from Eastern Kentucky University, Tim was drafted by the LA Rams.
As a player, Lester was awarded the NFL’s “Unsung Hero” in 1996 and 1997 for his community service involving youths. After his retirement in 2000, Coach Lester returned to his community in Miami with the dream to make a positive difference.
Since then, he has helped over 500 under-privileged youths with football camps, back-to-school events, and programs to help feed the needy during holidays. Tim has also become involved with the “Toys for Tots” program that provides toys to over 5,000 kids living in public housing.
Lester has repeatedly visited schools, especially those for at-risk kids, speaking on the value of an education.
Tim's favorite verse of scripture is Philippians 4:13, which reads, “I can do everything through him who gives me strength.”
Lester's career milestones include:
